We tailor our repertoire and sound for the needs of each venue and event. We can perform as a duo, trio, quartet or more, depending on your needs and budget. However, we do not consider ourselves nor aspire to be a General Business (GB) band who can play any and all top forty hits from every era. We work hard to select interesting covers and create unusual arrangements that unlock new dimensions of sound. Therefore we do not take requests on the fly at gigs, though are glad to work with you if there are special songs you’d like us to be sure to do for your event. We request a deposit to hold your date and will draw up a contract that meets your specifications. You can rest assured that we will honor all our commitments in full. "We play to the room," member LoCascio says. "Nothing is worse than going to a party where people want to talk to each other, and the band drowns everything out. We pay special attention to the needs of the particular event, and make sure we are enhancing the ambience, not overwhelming it."Many evenings, this means playing a cozy first set of more laid-back jazzy originals and blues covers, then as the evening builds, moving into a more lively dance set of upbeat covers with a special The Flip Side twist. As LoCascio says, "I like to take a recognizable standard everyone knows, such as 'Mustang Sally' or 'Kansas City', run it around the block, turn it inside out, hang it upside down, then tuck it back in before anyone knows what happened!" The result is a fresh take on material that leaves audiences calling for more.
Here’s what Susan Callahan of Aspect Medical Systems said about The Flip Side after hiring them to play for over 300 guests at their recent company party at the Braeburn Country Club in Newton, MA:
"After hearing Flipside perform at a local Cape Cod café, I asked them to perform recently at a company-sponsored function (dinner/dancing). They created such a fun and energetic atmosphere - there was plenty of great music and dancing…it was really special! I have had occasion to provide live entertainment for other functions, and Flipside is definitely the best!"As singer/songwriters, The Flip Side has also hosted many local Open Mics and coffeehouses, and they enjoy playing showcases in small local venues. Weidman says, "It's such a treat to have the opportunity to play for live audiences who sit quietly hanging on every note and word. We use those opportunities to play our most personal and sophisticated originals. It's a joy to have them so well received." Several of The Flip Side's songs have been so well received they won the Cape Cod Songwriting Contest for two years running, as well as were finalists in the Boston Blues Challenge.
Flipside also has a regular core of great musicians available who can round out the band's ability to play a wide variety of settings.
